Business Education |
The Business Education Department has developed a program, which serves students in developing business skills and vocational training. In the Business Department, students learn the skills necessary to succeed in the future. With the growing importance of computer technology, an emphasis is placed on acquiring the skills necessary to take advantage of technology while learning the basics of successful business management.
In addition to general skill classes, students will have an opportunity for vocational training, which will make them employable in today’s job market. Skills in accounting, keyboarding, filing, calculating, word processing, database and spreadsheet are stressed along with knowledge of business and marketing practices.
Students may complete their computer literacy graduation requirement by taking BMA I. In addition to the basics of word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications on the computer, students will be given additional training in study skills, employability skills, keyboarding, and expanded computer applications as a building block for future use.

The student will learn double entry bookkeeping while analyzing the impact on a business operation. While recording daily transactions in various journals and ledgers, the student will learn about the financial operations of single owner businesses as well as corporations. Students practice proper accounting procedures through the use of business simulations and practice sets. This course will prepare the student for proficiency in financial record management and may lead to entry level job placement. Peachtree and QuickBooks Pro software will be used to supplement instruction. Accounting is an essential course for any college-bound student who is considering a career involving finance, business, and/or marketing. This CTE course qualifies as a math-related experience if taken in the senior year for a student who has fulfilled the approved math sequence of courses as described in the Michigan Merit Core Curriculum guidelines. This course is articulated with Mott Community College and Baker College. See instructor for details.

Begin to prepare yourself to meet the demands of a changing world by enrolling in Business, Management and Administration I. This course will prepare student with the necessary skills to succeed in college and professional working environments. Students will master software skills in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation employability skills, professional development activities, file management, communications, time management, problem-solving, and teamwork. This course also stresses the opportunities and challenges of operating a business. Students will be learning business management and administration practices. Software includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Desktop Publisher, Movie Maker and others. Some multimedia hardware may be used throughout the course as needed.

This course will build on knowledge gained from Business, Management and Administration I. Students will continue to improve word processing, spreadsheet, charting, database, designing and publishing skills. Other areas covered include: entrepreneur, financial analysis, operations and business processes, business law and strategic management. Professional business etiquette will be stressed. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) organization. Multimedia hardware such as digital/video cameras, input devices and scanners will be utilized. Software includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Desktop Publisher, Movie Maker and internet-based tools may be used throughout the course as needed.

This course is designed to explore the basic concepts of sports and entertainment marketing. Through activities, projects and presentations, students will learn how to market professional, college, and amateur sports, the motion picture and music industry, and recreational marketing. DECA prep activities are included. This class may fulfill ½ of the required for a visual performing or applied art credit.

This class will provide students with an opportunity to explore various marketing careers while learning basic management, marketing, and economic concepts. A focus will be placed on human relations and presentation skills, retail distribution, merchandise display, product management, selling, advertising media and budgets, promotional mix, branding, online advertising and promotion, packaging and labeling, and technology. The class is group and project-oriented with a goal of creating real-world products, services, and ideas. Recommended for students interested in pursuing a marketing/business career in college.
