v What is Career Cruising?
Career Cruising is a comprehensive career guide/resource designed for individual, self-directed use.

To assist individuals with career matching, career exploration, post-secondary planning and EDP development

Ø Career Matchmaker
§ Interactive survey to find careers that suit your interests and see how different careers ‘match up’ with your interests
§ Begins by asking 39 questions
· Each question has 5 response choices (Dislike Very Much, Dislike, Does Not Matter, Like, or Like Very Much)
§ There are multiple rounds of questions to narrow down careers that match your interests
§ Career Matchmaker then provides a list of 40 suggested careers
· The careers on the list are ranked according to how well they suit your interests
· You may learn more about a career by clicking on it
§ Matchmaker also provides suggested Michigan Career Pathways
§ Users may choose a level of education to tailor their career suggestions
§ Users may utilize other options in Matchmaker on their own time
§ SAVE WORK TO EDP after answering each set of questions
§ Matchmaker also has a ‘My Skills’ section where users may identify whether they have the skills necessary for careers that match their interests.
· There are 45 different skills that the user is required to self-assess
Ø Explore Careers
§ This section contains hundreds of in-depth career profiles
§ Users may get career profiles in several different ways:
· By careers, by index, by school subject, by cluster, career selector, or by Michigan Career Pathways
§ Each career profile contains information such as: job description, working conditions, earnings, education and training requirements, etc
§ Users may view multimedia interviews of two people in each career
Ø Explore Colleges and Universities
§ This section helps users plan the education and training that they will need to begin their career
§ Users may search for schools, programs, school selector (using factors such as location, majors offered, and admission difficulty, etc), and financial aid (scholarships, grants, loans)

· Users can save Career Matchmaker results and other assessment results
· Bookmark careers and schools of interest and keep notes
· Create high school course plan
· Record career exploration activities (internships, volunteer experience, job shadowing, interviews, etc
· Select Career Pathways
· Develop a post-secondary education plan
· Plan short-term and long-term plans
· Document extra-curricular activities
· Keep track of acquired skills and abilities
· Maintain a record of work and volunteer experiences
· Upload and store documents such as essays, reference letter, scanned artwork, etc
· Create customized resume
