Project Title: From Singular to Plural

Developer: Lisa Michalczuk

The project in a sentence…

In one sentence, what is this project about?

Teaching Spanish I students how to make words plural.

Audience

Describe the relevant characteristics of the intended learners (e.g., grade level, special needs or advanced).

The audience will be Spanish I students, beginner level language learners

Instructional Objectives

What do you want the learner to learn? (Be sure to reference the subject matter as well as appropriate curriculum standards.)

The students will learn the 3 rules to make words plural. We will review vowels and constants, which lead into the 3 rules in Spanish. By being able to do so, they will broaden their ability to communicate in the foreign language.

Curriculum standards: grammar based

Pedagogy

What are your instructional strategies? (Be sure to design and include at least two different strategies, such as, but not limited to, inductive and deductive.) Briefly describe the flow of interaction for the learner.

I will have students review what is a vowel and constant. They will then be walked through the first rule in Spanish (rule-eg). They will practice this first rule before being introduced to rule 2. I will then walk them through rule 2 (rule-eg). There will be practice with the 2 rules before moving on to rule 3. The 3rd rule will be eg-rule. I will show several examples, then have the students decide what they see as a pattern. After having them try to solve the pattern, I will go over rule 3.

Active Response

What will you ask the learner to do to demonstrate understanding?

The students will need to decide if words are following a pattern, they will need to match up correct plural words to the rules. They will be able to recognize which words fall under each rule, therefore making the words into correct Spanish plurals.

They will be able to recognize the pattern and match it up to the rule.

Feedback

How will you give the learner feedback on the actions taken?

There will be several "quiz" screens to give students the much needed practice. If they choose an incorrect rule, it will send them back to the rule page to review. The rule page will give step by step instructions on how to make the word plural. If it is correct, I will have a screen to reinforce the rule.
