Every organization has rules.  Members of organizations have individual responsibilities as well as responsibilities to the group.  Our classroom is no exception.  The following are policies and procedures for this year.

To be successful, you need to be:

Present:  Attendance is crucial to your success in this class.  Oral work, teacher explanations, and opportunities to practice will affect your ability to communicate in Spanish.  You need to be present to make the most of these experiences.

Prompt:  You are to be in the room and seated when the tardy bell rings. Sliding through the door will be recorded as a tardy.

Prepared:  It is expected that you will have the following materials with you each day:  textbook, notebook, assignments, pen/pencil, or any other necessary materials.  Coming to class unprepared is unacceptable behavior and will be dealt with accordingly.

Polite:  Everyone wants and deserves to be treated respectfully.  Therefore, it is expected that you will treat others, their ideas, questions and belongings with respect.  It is also expected that you will talk only when directed to do so, listen while others are speaking and exercise control over your own actions so that this class may run as smoothly as possible.

Participating:  The only way to learn a foreign language is by practicing.  Practice takes many forms.  Listening, speaking, reading and writing are all forms of participation that you will be expected to perform during the course of the day.  The more you participate, the easier the material will be and the more likely you will be to experience success.

GRADING

  1. All grades will be assigned and recorded as percentages.
  2. Attitude, cooperation and behavior will affect your grade.
  3. All assignments will contain two grades, the percentage and the letter grade.  Only the number grade will recorded.  The letter grade is for your benefit.
  4. Homework will be graded in two ways.  Often, it will be checked to see that it was completed and then corrected in class.  This type of homework is work 10 points and the points earned are recorded on a special homework grid kept by Ms. Michalczuk.  After 5 or 6 of those have been recorded on the grid, they will be recorded in the grade book as a weekly homework grade.  The other method of checking homework is for the homework to be collected and graded by Ms. Michalczuk.  This grade is then entered in the grade book as a homework grade.
  5. Participation:  The best way to learn to speak a language is to practice.  Oral participation will be graded using “flechas.”  You will receive a chart for recording your oral participation.  This will be collected several times during the quarter and the grade entered as a homework grade.
  6. Grading scale:  The following scale will be used to assign letter grades.

93-100                         A                                 73-76               C
